PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before joining the club

Want to know whether club life suits your interests? Here are answers to key questions about membership and activities. You can also contact us to discuss your situation.

How do flight invitations work?

Members may receive invitations to flights organised by the association or its partners. These outings let you experience the activity alongside the crew, participate on the ground and discover ballooning in practice. An opportunity to go up in the basket may arise depending on places and conditions. We explain how invitations work when you contact us.

What does the annual fee include?

The €95 fee lets you join the association for a year of club life. It gives access to activities offered to members, invitations, encounters and shared experience. Precise conditions and any charges for particular activities are communicated before your membership is confirmed.

Does membership guarantee a flight?

No. The fee is for membership of the association. Opportunities to fly depend on activities, weather and available places. No number of flights is guaranteed. Before joining, take time to check that participating in club life matches your expectations.

Can I take part as a beginner?

The club welcomes curious people and enthusiasts. You can discover the equipment and activities under supervision. Explain your interests and questions - we will clarify participation conditions and how to get started. Charles Desmet supports members by sharing experience and advice as activities and the club’s possibilities allow.

I am taking balloon pilot lessons

Observing a crew and exchanging ideas can complement your learning. The club values mentoring and shared experience. These do not replace BPL training or guarantee recognised hours within your course. Describe your background so we can discuss the possibilities. Charles Desmet, a balloon pilot since 1978 and an instructor and examiner for more than thirty years, contributes his experience. His mentoring helps you prepare questions for your instructor; the club does not provide official training.

Where do activities take place?

The association is based in Brussels and welcomes enthusiasts from Brussels and Brabant in particular. Activity locations and meeting points depend on organisation and conditions. The club’s address is not a launch site - always confirm your outing’s meeting point.

Do I have to attend every outing?

Activities depend on organisation and flight conditions. Tell us about your availability to understand club life and invitations. Before committing to an outing, make sure you can meet the announced times and arrangements.

Why might an outing be postponed?

Weather and organisational factors may lead to an activity being changed or postponed. Flight decisions are made by those responsible for organising it. Follow the information provided for the outing and confirm the meeting point before travelling.

How do I know what to bring?

The outing organiser provides the meeting, equipment and participation instructions. Ask for these before coming. If you have a particular constraint, mention it when contacting us so we can check participation possibilities.

How is transport organised?

The departure point, landing and balloon retrieval are part of an outing’s organisation. Transport and return arrangements must be confirmed with the club for each activity. Include your municipality and transport options in your enquiry.

Can I choose a date or reserve a place?

Membership provides access to club life and invitations according to the activities offered. It is not a flight booking for a chosen date. If you are looking for a specific service, explain your request - we can clarify whether it fits how the association works.

How do I join and pay my membership fee?

Send your membership enquiry. We explain the conditions, period covered and payment of the €95 annual fee. Membership is then confirmed under the club’s arrangements. You can ask questions before deciding. If you are interested in Charles Desmet’s mentoring, explain your expectations from the first contact so we can discuss the support available; membership guarantees neither individual coaching nor a flight.

How do I renew my membership?

Contact the club to confirm your membership period and renewal arrangements. Follow the association’s instructions for payment and confirmation.

Have another question?

Your availability, training or plans may need a personal response. Write a few lines and we can discuss how you could participate.
